Freeform or Fixed Aspect Ratio?
Freeform lets you choose any rectangular area. A fixed aspect ratio keeps the crop frame at a consistent width-to-height proportion while you resize or reposition it.

What Happens When You Crop an Image?
Cropping removes the pixels outside the selected frame. The selected region becomes the new image, so its pixel width and height become the output dimensions.
This cropper does not intentionally stretch or resize the pixels that remain. If you need to change the width or height of the complete image instead, use the Image Resizer.
Crop JPG, PNG and WebP Images
The cropper keeps the output in the same supported image format as the uploaded file. That means you can crop a PNG without converting it to JPG, and WebP remains WebP.

Does Cropping Reduce Image Quality?
Cropping removes the area outside your selection, so the overall pixel dimensions are usually smaller. The retained region does not need to be stretched or resized by the crop itself. However, the downloaded file is newly encoded; JPG output in particular uses JPEG encoding, so it should not be described as mathematically lossless.
